Happy March, Joplin Area League members,
Our March LWVGJA calendar is here! It focuses on dates important to the League of Women Voters, as well as important dates for our local chapter. Feel free to share this calendar with anyone who would like to join us! Also attached are the updated contacts for our Missouri state representatives. Please share with friends!
It's Women's History Month! This year’s theme is “Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations.” It is a time to recognize the historical achievements women have made to help advance us. The work women have contributed to our society has improved our lives in tech, fashion, medicine, science, activism and more. https://www.womenshistory.org/womens-history/womens-history-month
It's also Deaf History Month. National Deaf History Month is celebrated March 13th to April 15th each year to commemorate the achievements of people who are deaf and hard of hearing. Although National Deaf History Month is not a federally recognized holiday, it’s a time to raise awareness about the deaf community and their struggles in our society. The month also focuses on honoring the immense contributions of deaf individuals and the deaf community to our country.
LWVGJA in the Community:
March 22nd and 29th: We will be back at Joplin's Empire Market! April 8th will be our next election date, so LWVGJA will be available to get the community voter ready. Looking to get involved? Come join us! We have some volunteer shifts available. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0E44A4A923A1FBCE9-55370118-joplin#/
Dates of Note:
We remember the Anniversary of Bloody Sunday, 59 years ago this month and the Anniversary of SCOTUS Rucho arguments, which challenged North Carolina’s 2016 redistricting plan as an unconstitutional partisan gerrymander and a violation of the First and Fourteenth Amendments.
